THE MUSISIONARIES- Avion Blackman (Christafari)

Christafari is a reggae band, going to all the world preaching the gospel and touching souls through their music.

They have been in Kenya for two weeks now and I was privileged to have a short interview with Avion Blackman last night after an awesome experience at the Kcrew Bible Study.

Avion is wife to Mark Mohr, the leader of the band. She plays the lead and the bass guitar and she is also the lead vocalist of the band. She has 3-single albums and now a mother of a beautiful daughter.
Here is what she had to say:
  • How and when did Christafari start ?
Avion: Christafari was started 26 years ago by Mark after he dedicated his life to Christ. He used to play secular reggae but when he gave his life to Christ he felt that the Lord was calling him to play reggae for Him.
  • Why Music for you?
Avion: I'd say it is in the blood. My father was a musician. He invented the Soca and Jamoo music in the Caribbean. My mother too was a musician, same to my siblings. I am sure you know of my brother Isaac Blackman. The entire Blackman family is a musical family. When I gave my life to Christ, I decided to do Music for the Lord.
  • Would you say that you are satisfied?
Avion: Yes I am Satisfied. The road trips are fun. It is my second time in Kenya, third for Mark. We actually call ourselves 'The Musisionaries'.
  • What's your favorite book in the Bible?
Avion: I would say the book of Psalms, but I love the entire Bible.
  • What's your comment about Kenyan Music?
Avion: I haven't heard much of it but what I've heard, I love. I'm waiting to hear more. We are actually doing two tracks for our new album with Tune Dem Band.
  • Word to gospel artists out there.
Avion: Do it for God, from the heart and never compromise... NEVER COMPROMISE!!. He'll bless you with many opportunities and take you out there.
