WHO DO YOU SAY I AM?

One day Jesus asked his disciples who people said he was, (Mathew 16:13-20). They went ahead and listed what other people thought he was. Then Jesus asked who the disciples thought he was, and Peter replied, "The Messiah, the Son of the Living God." Jesus went ahead and declared a blessing over Peter for knowing whom He was. Mark this however, he told him that this was not revealed to him by flesh and blood.

Nilitoka njia ya Bingu nilikoitwa mimi
(I have left the heavenly way)

Kama mwana mpotevu nimetambua
(Like the prodigal son I have realized)
Nimepotea nimekuwa mbali
(I am lost, I have been far)
Njia ya bingu, niliacha safari
(The ways of the righteous, those I stopped following)
Naja leo, sijijui,
(Today, I don't know who I am)
Naomba uniambie, mininani?
(I pray that you may tell me who I am...)
Uniambie...mininani?
(Tell me, who am I?)

This song reminds of sometime in high school when I would sit by myself and just reflect upon my life, where I was, where I wanted to go and what exactly I wanted to stand for. As young as I was, I could notice that some of us lived lives that were not meant for us. It is easy to stray, get lost, lose who we are in order to fit in the circles of friendships and family. We forget that the distinct nature in us is what makes the world so artistic and beautiful.Funny how you would walk with people who may not really know who you are. We have been measured by how well we meet other people's expectations but the question is, who I'm I really? In the middle of all the cultural changes, career goals, relationship goals and advises, have we lost our true identity in all these?
The writer of the son goes ahead and lists a number of things that she has heard her family, friends and neighbors say she is and then counters all that with what God says she is. He calls us His righteousness, the apple of His eye, a royal priesthood, a chosen nation etc. All in His word and the fact that he made the world before he made us shows that he will always provide before we even realize that we need the provision.
Whatever names you have been called, whatever expectations that have been laid on you, never forget that in all that happens God's word over your life is final. If heaven calls you great, even if the earth beats you down you will always be great.
