WHAT MAKES YOU STAND?

If going through salvation and life as a Christian was automatic once one got born again then there would be no one backsliding. In the bible we are carefully warned to be careful if we are at the top for it is easy for one to be brought down by one below. Paul also warns us to be careful not to think too highly of ourselves and I think we unknowingly and sometimes knowingly think that it is easy for us to stand especially if we have been on the salvation journey for a number of years.

A good example is Simon Peter. He was so passionate about Christ and to him it was obvious that he would stand and defend Christ at the time of His crucifixion. He even went to the extent of chopping off a soldier's ear at the time of Jesus' arrest but something changed when he was sitting at the temple courts during the trials of Jesus. He was not able to outwardly admit that he was a disciple of one being sentenced to death. This is a challenge to you who thinks you can go all the way or have no doubt of making it to the finish line.
David was wise enough to ask God not to give him too much least he falls away from God. That's a wise prayer because we do not know the odds. God always wants us to be careful because He knows the nature of the devil and his tricks.
Kuna Uwezekano wa binadamu kuchoka
(There's a possibility for human to get tired)
Kuachana na njia zako na kupotoka
(To leave your ways and to deviate)
Nipe uvumilivu
(Give me endurance)
However, one thing is very crucial and this is where grace and the law differ from one another. For the law we had to have confidence in ourselves to keep it but by grace it is the confidence we have in Christ that keeps us. It has not been left for us to stand alone but the spirit of God has been provided readily to all those in Christ to remind us what Christ taught and to teach us new things concerning the kingdom. So we are not to figure it out on our own and have a number of laws to follow so that we remain standing but instead we are to ask from God who gives generously, whatever we need. It is not by power nor by might that we stand but by the Spirit of the Lord.
