I HAVE MET MYSELF
Have you ever done or said something then looked back and
wondered if that was really you or someone else? Are there times when you have
thought of yourself as a very ‘good’ person then somehow something happens and
you realize you are probably not that ‘good’ after all?

When such things happen I am reminded that apart from Christ
there is really no good in me. Our righteousness is as filthy rags to Him
because it is Him who works in us to will and to do that which pleases Him.
Anything that we do without Him is like building on straws.
So in love
with laughter
So amazed by
the beauty of the universe
So thrilled
by the diversity of the human race
So intent on
being the best I can be
So hopeful
and eager to experience what life has to offer.
I have met myself
So gloomy I
scare people away
So bothered
by the uncertainty of life
So afraid of
facing yet another day
Too
exhausted to try and be better
Too afraid
to let people in.
I have met myself
Faithful to
keep my promises
Willing to
understand what my fellow man is going through
Ready to
lend a hand wherever possible
Eager to see
everyone at peace
I have met myself
Intending to
keep the promises I make
Yet tending
to break them more often than not
I have met
myself- a shapeshifter of sorts
So
unreliable. . . so puzzling. . .
I have met
myself- flawed, human.
Constant as
daybreak
Love so pure
Hope so real
Joy so deep
Arms wide
open.
I have met
You
The Way, the
Truth, the Life
Able to
teach me faithfulness
Able to
envelope me with Your love
Able to
ignite a hope so real
Able to give
joy unspeakable
Ready to
embrace me as I am
Ready to
mould me to be more like You.
I have met
You
And now
there’s a beautiful newness in who I am.
